Investment Planning

Your future financial independence relies on selecting the right type of investments and balancing the risks.

When looking to invest there are considerable options available, and selecting the right route can seem daunting. At Axis Wealth Management we can help you navigate these tricky waters and find an investment strategy that is right for you.

We have an industry leading advice process utilizing modern model portfolio theory and highly diversified investments. Depending on your goals, this gives you the opportunity to achieve real growth in your investment, income, or both.

The amount of time you are looking to invest and your sensitivity to risk both greatly impact the most suitable investment choices available to you. Once again, our cutting edge risk profiling tools are based upon the social science of psychometrics and have been developed in association with Oxford University.

Our model portfolios give an investment strategy based on your aversion to risk using the best performing funds in each sector over the last 5 years. We also incorporate quarterly rebalancing of these portfolios to keep your asset allocation in check. Some clients may look for an even more sophisticated investment approach, and we have links to the top discretionary fund managers who will make alterations to your investment on daily basis. (The value of your investments can go down as well as up, so you could get less back than you invested.)

Advice Process

Our advice process is second to none, and has been honed after 20 years of tailoring advice for clients and updated as technology and regulation changes.

Discretionary Fund Managers

Sophisticated investors may look to have their money managed on a daily basis. A discretionary fund manager is a highly specialised professional third party, who has the expertise to read market changes and the confidence to take detailed decisions about investment placement.

Working to set parameters, a DFM’s remit is two-fold:

  • To maximise growth in the portfolio
  • To protect the fund against falling markets.

There are broadly two types of DFM:

  • A traditional DFM will build a bespoke portfolio for clients, and typically requires at least a £250,000 minimum investment.
  • Other DFM’s offer discretionary model portfolios – these are typically risk rated (but not bespoke). These model portfolios are cheaper, and they have much lower minimum investment amounts.

Diversification

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

We’ve all heard the expression, and in the investment process this sentiment couldn’t be more fitting. Different investments behave in completely contrasting ways and are subject to their own distinct risks. Saving your money in a diverse range of assets and sectors helps reduce the loss should one of your investments suffer a downturn.

At Axis Wealth Management, we have a constructed a range of highly diversified investment portfolios which will allow your investment to be spread from anywhere between equities in China, to corporate bonds and commercial property in the UK. By investing your money in a large range of asset classes, and markets we provide you with industry leading highly diversified investment portfolios.

The portfolios are tailored to your risk, and range from 1 to 10, with risk 1 being entirely cash and money market based investments, and risk 10 being very high risk investing in equities overseas in the emerging markets. The value of your investments can go down as well as up, so you could get back less than you invested.

Investment Goals

What are you trying to achieve with your investments?

Deciding your investment goals are crucial before looking for suitable investment. Are you looking to keep the money safe and secure, or are you saving for the future and looking for growth? Perhaps you are looking to use it as a source of income?

Once we know what you are looking to achieve, we must also consider how much risk you are willing to take with your investment and the amount of time you are looking to invest the money before determining your best route of action.

Things to think about before investing:

  • How much can you afford to invest?
  • How long can you afford to be without the money you’ve invested (most investment products should be held for at least five years)?
  • What do you want your investment to provide, capital growth (your original investment to increase), income or both?
  • How much risk and what sort of risk are you prepared to take?
  • What are the tax benefit implications and what tax will you pay and can you reduce it?
